What is a home inspection?

Answered by Onias Derilus, Mortgage Capital · NMLS# 1859012 · Florida licensed mortgage broker

A home inspection is an independent, top-to-bottom review of the property's condition — roof, systems, structure, and more — done after you're under contract. It's for your protection and is separate from the lender's appraisal.

It can reveal issues to negotiate or walk away from. Though optional, we strongly recommend one on every purchase. The inspector works for you, not the lender.
