Does an FHA loan require a home inspection?

Answered by Onias Derilus, Mortgage Capital · NMLS# 1859012 · Florida licensed mortgage broker

FHA requires an appraisal that checks the home meets minimum safety and condition standards, but that's not the same as a home inspection. A buyer's home inspection is optional but strongly recommended.

The appraisal protects the lender; an inspection protects you by uncovering defects. We always advise getting your own inspection even though FHA doesn't require it.
